The name "Long Now" was inspired by a member of The Long Now Foundation, who referred to a special clock designed by Danny Hillis to tick perfectly for 10,000 years, evoking the long-living qualities of this wine. First launched in 2000, Pelissero dedicated a specific plot of Nebbiolo vines exclusively for blending with the Barbera varietal, specifically for the production of this "Langhe Rosso," along with a small percentage of a rare and almost unknown local grape.
This innovative blend was conceived by Pelissero to highlight the potential of the two primary varietals grown from precious, aged vines. During production, each varietal is matured separately in small oak barrels for 15–18 months, then blended, bottled, and aged for an additional 4–5 months before release.
The result is a Langhe wine of violet-blueish, almost black, colour with a lively, particularly pleasant bouquet. It showcases a pronounced varietal scent, aromas of ripe fruit, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it delivers an explosion of velvety full-bodied richness, offering a delightful expression of the varietals with an unforgettable taste.
