Orgno Rosso Veronese I.G.T. 75cl (2009) FASOLI GINO

The Fasoli Gino family planted Merlot in the Orgno estate in 1978 as a test to see whether the land, traditionally used for white wine production, could also produce high quality reds. Although the initial results were good, the family decided to wait 10 years in order that the new wines would reach the high levels demanded. The hand harvested Merlot grapes used to produce the Orgno are hung by hand to dry on wires for 80 days (traditional "appasimento") before they are pressed, fermented, and left to mature in French oak barrels for 12-15 months. As a result, this wine has an intense ruby red colour, and is full-bodied and rich with superb balance. The palate is velvety with notes of ripe red fruits and hints of leather, truffles and licorice.
