The Rosso di Montalcino 2021 is a certified organic red wine, embodying the essence of the Col d’Orcia vineyard in Montalcino, Tuscany. This vineyard, perched on hills overlooking the Orcia river at an average altitude of 250 metres, benefits from a southern exposure and a perfect microclimate for Sangiovese cultivation.
The 2021 vintage faced unique challenges, including an April frost and a prolonged drought through the summer, reducing yields by 30%. However, these conditions resulted in highly concentrated grapes with excellent aromatic complexity. Harvested at peak ripeness, the Sangiovese, locally called Brunello, undergoes fermentation in wide, shallow steel tanks to extract tannins and colour gently.
The wine is aged for 10-12 months in Slavonian oak casks, with portions matured in tonneaux and concrete tanks, followed by bottle refinement.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red hue with violet reflections. Its bouquet is ample and complex, blending cherry and ripe red fruit jam with subtle notes of spices and toasted oak. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied structure, with soft, ripe tannins beautifully balanced by the vibrant acidity typical of Sangiovese. The finish is long-lasting and pleasantly fruity.
