Barolo Bricco San Pietro is a “giant” of the Western slopes of Monforte d’Alba and is the area with the most new activity in terms of vineyards and cellars producing the coveted wine. However, the true flagship wine of this area is the Rocche Dei Manzoni's Vigna d’la Roul whose clay-limestone soils contribute to increased structure in the wines. Produced using only increasingly organic/biodynamic hand-selected 100% Nebbiolo da Barolo (found in only eleven communes that comprise the Barolo DOCG) grown in their Vigna d'la Roul vineyards. Once vinified and fermented the wine is transferred to small oak barrels where it refines for 36 months, plus a further 12 months in bottle This is a massive Barolo that needs a lot more time in bottle to fully come around. In the glass it recalls decadent amounts of cherry, rose, tar and tobacco, with eagerness and super tannins in the mouth that will mellow with ample ageing, plus a slight bitterness to the finish. Best decanted at least 6 hours before serving (when young) but recommended to cellar for at least 10-20 years for optimal results. This wine will last over 30 years if stored correctly.
