Ruffino's first ever Riserva Ducale Oro was produced in 1947 to commemorate an exceptional vintage year. This tradition continues today whereby the Oro is only produced in outstanding vintages - if the grapes don't make the winemaker's exact standards, the wine will not be made. Made predominantly from the finest Sangiovese grapes from Ruffino's Gretole estate, some of the best vintages over the past 15 years include: 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008 - all can still be enjoyed today due to its extraordinary longevity. The GRAN SELEZIONE branding, introduced in 2014, is given to the top level ORO vintages only. Ruby red with garnet hues, the wine expresses a distinctive bouquet of violet, cherry, and plum with aromas of chocolate and spice, blackberry, and ripe plum with intriguing notes of cinnamon and clove. Classic elegance and structure in which the fruit, tannins and spices form a tightly woven balance, with a lingering finish of cocoa and coffee.
