As the most beloved oenological creation of Castello di Montepò, this label embodies all the organoleptic qualities of the Sangiovese Grosso BBS 11, the exclusive clone owned by the Biondi Santi family. A fresh, round and dynamic wine, takes its name from one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks: an imposing glacial erratic which has inspired many local legends - a wine that represents the bridge between the past and the future of Biondi Santi's wine production, creating a new interpretation of the Sangiovese grape. Run by Jacopo Biondi Santi, this wine estate offers world-class wines of outstanding quality, elegance and finesse. The Sassoalloro is aged in unroasted french oak barrels for 14 months, and the resulting wine has a deep ruby red colour, offering alluring scents of black pepper, cherry, blackberry, violets, graphite and wet earth. Full-bodied in the mouth, it has a lovely balance of soft tannins and good acidity with a long, caressing finish. Excellent with a roast leg of lamb and herbs or grilled bacon wrapped venison - superb potential for longevity (15-20 years).
