Vanotu is the Piedmonts’ nickname for Giovanni who was Giorgio’s grandfather and previous owner of the vineyard. Due to the particular climate, wines of great character can still be obtained even in poorer vintages. First bottled in 1960, this wine is aged for 20–22 months in barrique with a further 9 months in the bottle, creating concentration, fruity notes, and a soft, tannic complexity. Its colour is an intense ruby, and it expresses fruity notes of raspberry and cherry and is well balanced with persuasive notes of wood and vanilla. Even through ageing, the typical notes are constant, along with hints of sage, mint, thyme, and camomile - a real trademark of the soil. In the mouth, it is velvety, ample, and full of sweet, lasting tannins. It has a great structure and is correctly balanced.
