Roeno Winery: A Legacy of Passion, Innovation, and Timeless Tradition

Origin of the Name: A Tribute to Heritage

In the outstanding Valdadige region, where the Veneto and Trentino regions embrace one another, lies a winery with a story as rich as the wines it produces – the Roeno Winery. The roots of Roeno Winery run deep, not only in the fertile soils of the “TerradeiForti” but also in its very name.

An acronym derived from the founder’s name, Rolando, and the Greek word for wine, Enos, the name Roeno encapsulates the essence of the family’s dedication to the art of winemaking and their commitment to preserving heritage.

Resisting Time: A Vineyard Untouched by Phylloxera

Roeno’s enduring vineyard, the home of the rare Enantio grape, holds a remarkable history. Two factors preserves its legacy – its unique sandy, granitic soils act as a natural shield against the destructive phylloxera louse, sparing it from the late 1800s devastation that struck European vineyards. Additionally, the Fugatti family, the current owners, valiantly keep this impractical but historic vineyard, resisting pressures for a more lucrative replacement. This uniquely narrow vineyard, with generously spaced rows, preserves the essence of 19th-century wines when Enantio thrived in the Val d’Adige region, acting as a living time capsule.

Nature’s Harmony: Terroir, Soil, and Tradition

Roeno’s broader vineyards, scattered along the Trentino-Verona border, thrive on limestone and porphyry soils. The winery’s commitment to sustainable practices ensures that the grapevines, some over a century old, are treated with natural products, fostering a balance between nature and tradition. Balanced by warm days, cool nights, and ideal soils, grapes flourish, ensuring best ripening.

In this expansive viticultural expanse, covering dozens of hectares along the Adige, Roeno produces an impressive 350 thousand bottles annually. The use of cutting-edge cultivation techniques guides the entire production process, from the vineyards to the cellar. The organoleptic characteristic of the wines is intrinsic in the creation of Praecipuus, a Rhine Riesling whose vines were planted at an altitude of over 450 metres, with a straw-yellow colour and hints of hydrocarbons and typical notes of peach. In the mouth it is perfectly balanced between acidity and minerality combined with softness. Unique, harmonious, and elegant.

‘Praecipuus’ Riesling Renano I.G.T.  “PRAECIPUUS” – the Latin word for ‘excellent’ or ‘extraordinary’ – is a unique and elegant Rhine Riesling, born from Roeno’s ambitious project, featuring quality yeasts selected by the Institute Geisenheim.

Riesling Trevenezie I.G.T. ‘Collezione Di Famiglia’ is Roeno’s ultimate tribute to this extraordinary varietal. A limited quantity, selectively chosen, and bottle-aged, this unique Riesling showcases its full potential with recognizable notes of peach, balanced acidity, minerality, and a soft touch of residual sweetness.

The production of Pinot Grigio has always been cultivated in Roeno vineyard, even before it became a synonym for Italian white wine, especially in overseas markets. where its unique attributes were not well-appreciated. The Pinot Grigio “Tera Alta” and “Rivoli” are a perfect example of quality of the top Pinot Grigio.

“Tera Alta” is a gemmaria mutation of Pinot Noir; Valdadige is the ideal habitat for Pinot Grigio to express himself better, as he prefers climates that are cool and ventilated.

“Rìvoli”, derived from the location – Rivoli Veronese – and symbolizing the branches of life, Rivoli is a unique cru of Pinot Grigio.
