Alauda Toscana I.G.T. 75cl (2020) RUFFINO

Alauda Toscana IGT is a refined red wine crafted from single vineyards on the Poggio Casciano Estate. The blend features Merlot from Poggio al Mandorlo, Cabernet Franc from Rapale, and Colorino from Alexander, a native Tuscan grape variety that Ruffino has helped to preserve. The vineyards, located at altitudes of 290-450m, are planted in clay and limestone-rich soils with traces of silt. The wine undergoes meticulous vinification: fermentation in stainless steel vats with techniques like punching down and délestage, followed by malolactic fermentation in new French barriques with bâtonnage. Alauda ages for 24 months in French oak barriques by Jean Vicard, developing deep complexity. Tasting notes reveal a deep red hue with violet hints, ripe cherry, and plum from Merlot, herbal and smoky accents from Cabernet Franc, and balsamic overtones from Colorino. Gentle spices and polished tannins enhance its impressive structure, making it a wine of exceptional longevity, ideal for ageing gracefully over decades.
